LinkedIn has introduced a new generative AI-powered tool that the networking site says will help job-seekers determine if they’re qualified for a job and suggest people to contact at an organization.
Guidance for job-seekers. The tool for job-seekers was unveiled to select Premium members on Nov. 1, according to a press announcement. The chatbot shows job-seekers if their profile meets a role’s expectations, whom to reach out to, and even inspiration for what to say.
Job-seekers can use the tool, powered by ChatGPT-4, to analyze their LinkedIn profile and tell them if they have the relevant experience necessary for the job or identify what’s missing in their profile before applying, according to CNBC.
“It will include personalized takeaways and nudges, from suggestions for skills you should build, to professionals in your network to reach out to for any question you have (we’ll even help you craft personalized messages to kickstart those conversations),” Tomer Cohen, chief product officer at LinkedIn, said of the technology in a blog post.
Hari Srinivasan, VP of product management for LinkedIn Talent Solutions, told HR Brew that the new tool will also benefit recruiters, because it’s intended to draw applicants with the right skills.
“Sometimes when you're looking as a job-seeker at a job description, because of the way they’re written…people who may not have the belief that they could get this job don’t apply, which is a real miss,” Srinivasan said. “Our hope is by giving people a little bit more guidance in what the company is looking for…we can give [recruiters] what they actually want, which is the right applications.”
Expanding AI use. The job-seeker tool is just the latest use of AI from the social network. Last month, select recruiters gained access to LinkedIn’s Recruiter 2024, which helps them find and contact the right candidates using generative AI, SHRM reported. And over the summer, LinkedIn debuted AI-enabled messaging, helping recruiters draft messages to potential candidates.
“We had the chance to reimagine our recruiting experience, both in how the search works and the messaging,” Srinivasan said. “That total experience between job-seeking, learning, and hiring is something I’m really excited about…I think it is going to change the way job-seeking works.”
